history
House

This beautiful Edwardian mansion was built in 1912. The first owner of the house was a widow with four children who bought it because she wanted something smaller. She was obviously wealthy because, even by today's standards, the house is large.

Over the years, the house has changed hands several times and has seen interesting times. In the 1960's it was turned into a respectable bed and breakfast but later became a boarding house with a somewhat dubious reputation. The outside was painted in outrageous colours and the house became know for its wild parties.

In the 1970's it regained its respectability and was once again turned into a bed and breakfast by the Ryan family.

Marketa, and husband Tim, purchased the property in 1996 and began lovingly restoring the old house to bring back its original grandeur. The character and personality of the home is now evident in the restored floors, woodwork and décor, bringing it back to its former glory.

Marketa's Bed and Breakfast offers a unique opportunity to stay in a comfortable Edwardian heritage home only a few blocks from downtown Victoria.
