Sooke BC

For centuries Sooke has been the settlement for Coast Salish Indians. The gold rush of 1864 (Leech River Gold Rush) caused the population to grow with many European settlers. Today Sooke is a pleasant community of about 12,000 who enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and the West Coast.

Popular things to do in Sooke

Sooke is an excellent place to go fishing. It has direct access to the Pacific Ocean for salmon fishing, but also the fresh water lakes are close by. The East Sooke Park is popular for hiking. The park includes close to 1,500 hectares of ancient rainforest. The many coves and bays make kayaking and sailing a lot of fun. Famous destinations in Sooke, such as the Sooke Harbour House, Whiffen Spit, and the Sooke Potholes (in Sooke River Provincial Park and adjacent Sooke Potholes Regional Park) attract visitors both locally and from around the world. Mountain biking is growing in popularity in British Columbia, and Sooke is establishing itself as a destination for the sport.
